Is It Time to Replace Your Boiler?

woman-cold-scarfIf you own a boiler, then consider yourself lucky. Not only are these systems extremely efficient and effective, but they’re also super durable, capable of lasting upwards of 15 years (that’s a really long time!)

But unfortunately, no matter how durable your boiler is, eventually it is going to have to be replaced. In fact, there are a number of signs that suggest the time for a replacement, and below, we have outlined some of them for you. All you need to do is keep reading to find out more (and, as always, remember to call us when you need heating services in Colorado Springs.)

So, What Are the Signs?

Like we mentioned above, there are plenty of signs that suggest it’s time to replace your boiler, including:

1. It’s Old

The average lifespan of a heater is anywhere between 10 and 20 years. Traditionally, boiler systems tend to last longer than forced-air systems, but on average, 20 years is the limit for most systems. So, if your heater has aged beyond this average life expectancy, it might be time to invest in a new system.

2. It Requires Frequent Repairs

Your heating system should not require more than just one repair every few repairs. As a rule of thumb, if you are spending 50% or more the cost of a new system on repairs, it is better to just bite the bullet and invest in a new heater.

3. It’s Costing You More Money

If you have found yourself paying more and more each month to keep your home comfortable, it is likely that your outdated boiler is the culprit. See, as the system ages, it accumulates regular wear and tear, which, in turn, leads to reduced efficiency and bigger bills.

4. Corrosion

Although boilers are designed to resist corrosion by keeping oxygen out of the system, long-term use can eventually lead to rust. When you see rust or other types of corrosion on the boiler tank, it is definitely time to think about a replacement.

5. Poor Heat Distribution

If you notice random hot and cold spots popping up around your home, it is likely that your boiler is having trouble evenly distributing heat. This is definitely a big problem, and a sign that something is wrong—it just may be that your system is on its way out.

Don’t Wait to Call in a Professional

If you suspect that your boiler is due for a replacement, do not hesitate to contact a certified HVAC professional for help. Trust us, only a professional has the tools, knowledge, and expertise to carefully remove your existing system and put a new, highly-efficient boiler in its place!

And, as a reminder, there may be plenty of amateurs willing to service your system for a fairly cheap price, however, an attempt to save money could end up costing you much more in the long run. Therefore, it is always better to call in a pro and get the job done right the first time around!
