Softball Sized Hail? Is Your AC Covered?

Friday, September 7th, 2018

hail-stormAs you have recently seen, hailstorms can be as big as softballs here in Colorado Springs. You will no doubt be concerned about your car, your roof, and even your own noggin when you head outside and the hail starts to fall. Here’s a question for you, though—what about your air conditioner?

Your air conditioner cannot run inside and seek cover from the hail, the way that you can go into your house or your car may be parked in a garage. Is your air conditioner covered? And no, we don’t mean in the sense of a protective covering. We’re talking about insurance coverage, in case damage is done to the system in the event of a storm.

If you’re not sure, we strongly recommend that you get in touch with your insurance provider. Homeowners insurance policies can vary quite a bit and, let’s be honest—none of us have ours memorized. It is definitely better to be safe than sorry when it comes to protecting your AC’s outdoor unit. The last thing that you want is to be scheduling repairs at the start of the summer, for damages done in the winter!

Contact Robbins Heating & Air Conditioning with any questions that you may have.

How Does an AC Cool the Air?

Monday, August 27th, 2018

air-conditioner-outdoor-unitLook, we don’t expect every homeowner to understand precisely how it is that their air conditioning systems work. The reason for this is quite simple—we’d have to find another industry in which to make our living, and you can’t teach some old dogs new tricks! All joking aside, though, we do believe that it is in the best interest of homeowners everywhere to have a basic understanding of the way in which their air conditioning systems work.

That is why we’re using today’s post to explore this very topic. So read on, take note of the mechanics behind the cooling cycle, and remember one fact above all others—a basic understanding of how your AC works does not qualify you for handling your own air conditioning services! When you need any services related to air conditioning in Fountain, CO, you need to call in trained professionals. The good news is that you’re reading this right now, which means you’ve already found them.

Why Is My AC Leaking Water? And How?

Monday, August 13th, 2018

thermometerWhoa whoa whoa, I’m no air conditioning expert or anything, but I didn’t think that my AC even used water—so how did it spring a leak? You’re right. You’re not an AC expert!

Sorry, we couldn’t resist.

In all seriousness, you are right to be confused by this odd phenomenon. No, your air conditioner doesn’t use water; doesn’t have a water supply line; doesn’t store water in any sort of tank or reservoir.

Then how can it leak water?

We’re not calling you a liar, and we’re not calling you crazy. You may well see water pooling around your indoor AC unit. However, it is not really a water leak in the way that you may be thinking of. And, in fact,  it may not actually be originating in the AC. More on that below.

So read on, contact us with any questions that you may have, and remember that Robbins Heating & Air Conditioning is here for any air conditioning services in Colorado Springs, CO that you may need.

How Do I Scale Back Cooling Costs (but Not My Comfort)?

Monday, July 16th, 2018

man-with-fanOkay, so you are not entirely pleased with the efficiency of your air conditioning system. Simply put, those energy bills are just getting a bit too much for comfort. So what do you do?  You could replace your air conditioner with a more efficient model—if you had the money to do so, which you don’t. You suppose that leaves you with just one option. Run the air conditioner less, and just put up with the discomfort that results from that decision.

No! Don’t do that. We are not here to pitch you a new AC that is both cheap enough for you to afford and incredibly efficient (though we are,  of course,  happy to help you find one if you’re ready!). We are here to share some simple tips regarding ways in which you can enjoy a more efficient performance from your existing air conditioning system, though. That way, you won’t have to compromise when it comes to your comfort or when you run your air conditioning in Woodland Park, CO.

When Do I Replace My Air Conditioner?

Monday, July 2nd, 2018

old-acWell, gee, you may be thinking,  if my quizzes in school were this simple, I’d have been a straight-A student! I’ll replace it when breaks down,  of course! Well, if that’s the answer that you’d give us, then we’d flunk you right out of our classroom! Okay, so we’d probably just politely explain to you why that is not the proper course of action, but you get the point. We understand the inclination, but you definitely shouldn’t wait for a complete breakdown before replacing your AC.

When you need to have your AC replaced (or any other HVAC service in Colorado Springs, CO), we are definitely the company to call. And we know that you want to get the best span of service possible from your AC, but we are going to help you to understand how to do so without putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation. Why Is My AC Starting and Stopping So Frequently?

Monday, June 4th, 2018

man-with-filterIf you assume that your air conditioner is running properly just because it is actually running, think again. There are plenty of problems that may develop with an air conditioning system which won’t render it completely inoperable right away. Given enough time, these and any other problems can and will result in serious issues. Chances are that you’ll be looking at a potentially expensive air conditioning repair in Manitou Springs, CO if you don’t deal with the problem promptly.

Short cycling is one such problem. What makes short cycling so tricky is that your air conditioner will still start up and run. However, it will run only very briefly before shutting back down again. Short cycling is itself a symptom of other underlying problems with your air conditioner. They are not all terribly serious, but the potential is there. Here are a few potential causes of your short cycling phenomenon. Keep them in mind, and be sure to contact us if you think that your system is in trouble.

Is My Air Conditioner Leaking Refrigerant?

Monday, May 21st, 2018

ac-manifoldAs a professional HVAC contractor, we like to remind homeowners that any problems with their air conditioning systems deserve and demand immediate attention. The longer that you let a problem go unresolved, the more likely it becomes that this problem will snowball and, eventually, wind up doing more extensive damage to your air conditioning system. In this sense, all AC issues are quite serious. Even we’ll admit that they’re not all created equal, though.

If you do have a refrigerant leak, then you are seriously going to need to have that problem resolved ASAP. All issues with your AC have the potential to do real damage, but a refrigerant leak can do it fast and can do it viciously. Give it enough time, and your refrigerant leak could even wind up doing irreversible damage to your compressor! At that point, an AC replacement is likely the next step. When it comes to all things HVAC in Colorado Springs, CO, we’re the pros to call.
